Wheel Alignment

Wheel alignment is important for the life of your tyres and the health of your vehicle. Alignment consists of adjusting the direction and angles and even the position of the wheels. Correct wheel alignment to the specification required by your vehicles manufacturer maximizes tyre life and ensures your vehicle will track straight and true when driving on a straight and level road. If your wheel alignment is out of spec, it can result in rapid and irregular tyre wear that can affect the handling and safety of your vehicle.

Wheel alignment can be adversely affected by hitting potholes, driving against pavements or by excessive wear to suspension or steering components. Wheel alignment consists of the following measurements: toe in, toe out, positive camber, negative camber as well as negative and positive caster. These measurements have certain tolerances that a technician uses to get as close as they can to the right measurement.

A pair of wheels is said to have toe-in when their leading edges are pointed slightly towards each other. If the leading edges point away from each other, the pair is said to have toe-out. Toe settings affect three major areas of performance: catastrophic tyre wear, poor straight-line stability and unstable corner entry handling characteristics.

The Camber, the inward or outward tilt of a tyre, is set by the vehicle manufacturer, and can be affected by potholes in the road and may need to be adjusted periodically. Incorrect camber settings could cause premature wear on the inside or outside shoulder of your tyres, which is something worth keeping an eye on. You should have your wheels checked after any impact with a pavement, pothole or stone, when a tyre looks abnormal or every 15,000 kilometers.

Wheel Balancing

A vibration on your steering wheel could be a sign that your wheels are not balanced correctly. Everyday driving can affect the balance of your tyres and incorrect balancing not only causes vibration in the steering wheel and dashboard making it uncomfortable to drive, but also causes premature wear of tyres, rapid wear of suspension parts, affects the performance of your vehicles road holding & handling and fuel efficiency.

You may not always sense an imbalance at the steering wheel. It could be present but dampened by the vehicle weight. This is why balancing is equally important for both front and rear wheels. Wheels are balanced on a wheel balancing machine which rotates the tyre and wheel assembly to automatically calculate the weight and location of the balance counter weight.

After wheel balancing, you should notice a smoother ride and better wear from your tyres. You should have your wheels checked or balanced after any impact with a pavement, pothole or stone, when a tyre looks abnormal or every 15,000 kilometers.

Tyre Repairs

In case one of your tyres picks up a puncture, we offer a tyre repair service to keep you going. We repair motorbike, passenger and SUV vehicles, truck and even Agricultural and Earthmover tyres provided that it is safe to do so.

Nitrogen

It is claimed* that tyre inflation with Nitrogen has the following benefits:

  • 1. Reduced corrosion - because unlike air there is no moisture in pure nitrogen.
  • 2. Slower rate of pressure loss - because nitrogen molecules are larger than oxygen molecules (which make up 21% of compressed air)
Fitments

We perform a number of general suspension fitments for most cars.

Aircon

The air-conditioning system ensures your comfort during the hot South African summers and helps to defog your windows in the cooler winters by decreasing the humidity level in the passenger compartment. The air-conditioning system should therefore be maintained properly and kept in proper working condition so as to ensure maximum visibility, comfort and above all, safety in the event of excessive fogging.

When the coolant gas levels are low, the optimal levels of comfort become affected and even increase the risk of major air conditioning system damage. At Point S Multi Tyre we recommend consulting a qualified Point S specialist to have the air-conditioning and heating system serviced or cleaned if you notice one or more of the following symptoms: The vehicles air-conditioning system is not as cool as it use to be previously; An unusual smell is detected through the air-conditioning system; The vehicles air-conditioning system causes abdnormal noises or rattles when in use.

Services and Oil Changes

For optimal performance for your vehicle, longevity and a quick start-up, it is essential that your vehicles engine be regularly examined and serviced. A typical service involves, among other things, replacing the spark plugs, verifying your ignition along with cleaning the fuel injectors as well as changing the oil along with various filters like oil filters, fuel filters and air filters. The oil change should be conducted at regular intervals; between 4,800 and 12,000 km depending on your particular vehicle and the manufacturers prescribed guidelines. A regular oil change and minor services will ensure:

Prevention of premature wear and tear of engine parts and components; Detection of certain potential irregularities Better and more consistent engine performance, with reduced misfires; Greater acceleration power; Reduced fuel consumption; Less pollution.
A safer drive

Signs that may mean that your vehicle is due for a tune up include:
Increased vehicle fuel consumption; The check engine light illuminates on the dashboard; The engine has a loss in performance or runs irregularly.

At Point S Multi Tyres we recommend that you use high grade products that respect the manufacturers standards.
