The creation of Point S
The Point S brand was created in the early 1970s in France. Based on the observation and a study conducted in four countries that the public knew nothing about tyre professionals, a handful of independent specialist dealers decided to work together to promote their trade and expertise in the tyre industry. The creation of Point S was the result of an extremely original initiative. In fact, it had a consumer-focused approach whereas most emerging alliances only strove to centralize purchasing. Point S is positioned as a tyre and car maintenance expert.
The brand mission of Point S is to always be on the consumers side. As a forty-five year old independent tyre dealer network, it's an expert that knows its clients well and can advise them on the most adequate solution depending upon their driving style and vehicle.

Tyre and related services:
Our offer, consistent with our positioning as a tyre specialist, covers all tyre ranges from passenger car to industrial tyres, as well as truck and agricultural tyres.
Our expertise and know-how are not restricted to products but also apply to all tyre services such as wheel balancing, alignment, repair, pressure control, etc. We also use state-of-the-art equipment adapted to the latest vehicle technical evolutions and provide our staff with regular training.
Car maintenance and auto parts:
Thanks to the traffic generated by our tyre sales (which is the primary reason people come to our workshops), we have extended our offer with additional services in car maintenance such as brake disc and brake pad change, oil change, as well as filter replacement.
Private label strategy:
Point S has developed its own private label with a complete range of summer) tyres, namely: Summerstar. In cooperation with a major European manufacturer, these are exclusively designed and produced for Point S in Europe for exceptional value benefitting from Point S's brand image.
In accordance with our international strategy of diversifying into automotive maintenance, Point S Development has implemented a streamlined international car parts supply policy and has developed its own-label product range in cooperation with leading international parts manufacturers
The De Rouwe family came from the Nederland in the late 50s and started in the tyre industry in the early 60s. In 1970 they opened the first tyre dealership in Boksburg, Multi Tyre Service and continues to service the Boksburg community.
Historical overview
Early 60s:
Piet de Rouwe started trading in tyre casings, collecting casings from all over the country and selling it to retreading factories.
Late 60s:
Piet de Rouwe is joined by his son, Jan and together they bought a retreading plant in Namibia and set it up in Boksburg North.
1970:
Piet and Jan registers Multi Tyre Service (Pty) Ltd and expands into new tyre retail and services. Shortly after Piet retires and Jan is joined by his brother Johan.
1980:
The brothers buy a shop in Delmas and names it Delmas Bande. They are joined by their younger brother Arie who manages the Delmas shop.
1991:
Jan and Johan is joined by Jans son Nico at Multi Tyre Service.
1992:
Multi Tyre Service becomes a Goodyear Selected Dealer. Delmas Bande becomes a Conti-partner, a program introduced by Continental.
1996:
Goodyear changes Multi Tyre Service from a Goodyear selected Dealer to a Goodyear Performance Centre. Jan retires from the tyre industry.
1999:
Multi Tyre signs a Hi-Q franchise agreement with Goodyear and became one of the first Hi-Qs in South Africa.
2000:
Nico is joined by his brother Leon and they start a second outlet in Boksburg registered as Creative Wheels cc.
2001:
Creative Wheels signs a Hi-Q franchise agreement with Goodyear and becomes the 80th outlet to join the program.
2002:
The family purchases Tyreman Springs and they put the outlet onto the Conti-partner program
2008:
Delmas Bande resigns from the Conti-partner program and signs a Speedy franchise agreement with Bridgestone / Firestone.
2010:
After 11 years, the de Rouwe family resigns both franchise agreements with Hi-Q. The family felt that the single branded franchise approach of manufactured owned franchise could no longer offer multiple brand solutions for their customers, and the limitations of the franchise that became more prescriptive could no longer support their entrepreneurial spirit.
2013:
Tyreman Springs leaves the Continental franchise and together with Multi Tyre Service and Creative Wheels the three outlets joins the newly established Point S network in South Africa. Point S is the biggest group of Independent Tyre Dealers in the world, owned and operated by its members and they offer a multiple brand solution.
2014:
Johan retires, Nico and Leon is joined by Nicos sons, Kirk and Matthew de Rouwe.
2016:
Multi Tyre Service introduces basic maintenance services and air conditioner maintenance service powered by Bosch.
